This is the home of the Chester Festival Chorus. Every year from May onwards we work hard to prepare for our annual summer concert singing some of the world’s best choral music. Over the years we’ve had a chance to sing with many world renowned orchestras, conductors and soloists. Look through the site for information about the choir, our past and future concerts, as well as information on how you can join us!
We emerged from the pandemic in 2022 with three concerts, a performance of the Bach St John Passion with English Touring Opera, a joint performance of the Verdi Requiem in Lichfield Cathedral with Stafford Choral Society, conducted by Ellie Slorach, and an unaccompanied concert in St Werburgh’s Church in Chester, again conducted by Ellie.
n 2023 we returned to Chester’s Storyhouse to perform with the Northern Chamber Orchestra a mixed programme of music for voices, strings and bells by composers such as Brahms, John Tavener, Sally Beamish and James Macmillan and in 2024 we performed Johannes Brahms’ evocative Requiem in the version for piano.
For 2025, in what will be Ellie Slorach’s final concert as our Music Director we will performing in St Thomas of Canterbury church for the first time, with the British Sinfonietta and a quartet of fine soloists. We will be revisiting Rory Wainwright Johnston’s A Glimpse of the Light in the version for full orchestra alongside the work that inspired it, Mozart’s final glorious Requiem, and the same composer’s perfect miniature, Ave Verum Corpus.
